Marcus Lee

The unsolved homicide of Marcus “Mark” Lee is the oldest unsolved or cold case in Oconee County right now, 26 and one-half years old. To put perspective on how old this case is, the location of Mr. Lee’s residence at that time was Route 1, Richland Road, in Westminster. The location of Mr. Lee’s home was near the intersection of Richland Road and North Seed Farm Road.

On that December night, Lee was severely beaten during a robbery at his home, according to Oconee County Sheriff’s Deputies, suffering a traumatic head injury. It does appear that robbery was the motive and deputies say they have reason to believe that Lee knew his assailant or assailants. The Sheriff’s Office had suspects that they were interested in at one time, but many of the leads have dried up. The Sheriff’s Office is looking for the public’s help.

“Mark Lee was well known in the community,” according to Oconee County Sheriff Mike Crenshaw. “He owned and operated a lawn mower/motorcycle repair shop beside his home. Some of these cold cases are like putting a puzzle together. You can see what the puzzle is supposed to be but you need to find the missing one or two pieces in order to make it complete. I believe there is someone out there that has the missing pieces our investigators need to complete this case. For whatever reason, they have never came forward. It is our hope that they will contact us with this information.”

If you have information regarding the case of Marcus “Mark” Lee, the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is asking you to call Crimestoppers at 638-STOP or 1-888-CRIME-SC or text in your tip to 274637.
